Chinese shares close lower Friday

BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.67 percent to 3,351.31 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.57 percent lower at 10,607.33 points.

The combined turnover of the two indices stood at about 1.12 trillion yuan (roughly 156.09 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.19 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to precious metals as well as film and television industry led the gains, while those in the chemical raw materials and fertilizer sectors suffered big losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.79 percent to close at 2,128.21 points. ■
