Spain beats Hungary to win men's water polo title at World Aquatics Championships

SINGAPORE, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Felipe Perrone capped off a storied international career by inspiring Spain to a 15-13 victory over Hungary in the men's water polo final at the World Aquatics Championships here on Thursday.

Perrone, the oldest player in the competition, was playing in his 14th and final world championships. The 39-year-old veteran, who has represented both Spain and Brazil over a career spanning two decades and five Olympic Games, scored two goals in the final, including the decisive one with just 18 seconds remaining.

In a thrilling final that featured multiple momentum shifts and standout performances, Bernat Sanahuja emerged as a key contributor for Spain with five goals.

The victory secured Spain's fourth men's world title, equaling the records of Hungary and Italy.

Hungary, which entered the final seeking its fifth title, fought valiantly but ultimately settled for silver. Greece claimed the bronze medal with a commanding 16-7 win over Serbia. ■
