Chinese shares close mixed Wednesday

BEIJING, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.23 percent to 3,279.03 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.51 percent higher at 9,899.82 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices stood at nearly 1.17 trillion yuan (roughly 162.47 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.02 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares related to robotics and computing power led the gains, while those in banking, insurance, electricity and shipping sectors were among the biggest losers.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.83 percent to close at 1,948.03 points Wednesday. ■
