Chinese brands are competitive in Germany as no other car manufacturers offer electric cars under 40,000 euros (43,000 U.S. dollars).

FRANKFURT, June 2 (Xinhua) -- The Weller Group, one of the largest car dealers in Germany based in the northern city of Osnabrueck, is preparing to sell Chinese-made MG electric cars on a large scale, responding to the brand's increasing popularity in the country, German media reported on Friday.

The group will sell the cars in its 35 dealerships across the country instead of the current four, business news magazine Wirtschaftswoche reported.

Burkhard Weller, managing partner of the Weller Group, was quoted as saying that cooperation with MG has been smooth. MG was originally a British car brand. It was acquired by Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) in 2007.

Weller noted that the Chinese brands are competitive as no other car manufacturers offer electric cars under 40,000 euros (43,000 U.S. dollars). The dealer also intends to sell another Chinese car brand in cities where MG dealerships are already present.

"We are pleased that we can now offer you the future-oriented models of this brand as an official MG dealer with our branch in Hamm (a city in the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia)," the company said on its website.

MG, among other Chinese brands that have entered the German market, has gained a foothold among customers. MG brand cars are now available in around 150 dealerships in Germany. ■
