Tokyo 2020: Adam Ondra earns Olympic spot at climbing qualifier in Toulouse
- Another 12 athletes join the 16 who have already earned their spots for the sport’s Olympic debut
Adam Ondra and 13 other climbers have earned their place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The second round of qualifiers took place at the weekend in Toulouse, France, the first 16 spots having already been decided in Japan in the first round in the summer.
Sport climbing is making its Olympic debut in Tokyo. Athletes will compete in a combined format, getting an accumulative score for their performances in bouldering, lead and speed climbing.
Six men and six women earned their spots this weekend.
Adam Ondra is considered the best climber in the world, but failed to qualify in Japan when judges deemed him to have used a bolt, instead of an official hold, during the lead event.
