The world watches as supermodels and global stars in elegant gowns and sharp tuxedos strut down Promenade de la Croisette. From Bella Hadid and Angelina Jolie to Brigitte Bardot and Elizabeth Taylor, this invitation-only event has welcomed only the most decorated film and fashion icons on its red carpet.

Pia Wurtzbach

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach Jauncey wore the creations of Filipino designer Mark Bumgarner in her debut appearance on the carpet this year. “I wanted her to look elegant, sexy, and modern,” the designer says about the process behind his designs for Pia. Styled by Perry Tabora, Wurtzbach wore a metallic scarlet evening gown with a sculptural silhouette, a black gown with a corset top and long cape, and jewellery from French label APM Monaco. Viewers remarked how the beauty queen is reminiscent of the old Hollywood era with her styling.

Dolly de Leon
Dolly de Leon’s rise to international fame happened on this very carpet back in 2022. She was with the ensemble of the Palme d’Or-winning film Triangle of Sadness, where her portrayal of Abigail earned critical acclaim and is widely regarded as her breakout role. For the red carpet, De Leon proudly wore a dress by local designer Ann Cuatico for “one of the most memorable nights of her life”, as she noted in her Instagram post.

Heart Evangelista
Heart Evangelista is no stranger to scene-stealing fashion moments. For Cannes Film Festival 2022, the Filipina fashion icon donned several outfits in multiple appearances. But these two from Lebanese-Italian fashion designer Tony Ward were the most memorable: an aqua couture ball gown with a gathered skirt and a red taffeta dress with a grandiose bow.

Kylie Verzosa

Another one of Mark Bumgarner’s creations appeared on the red carpet for the 76th Cannes Film Festival, and it’s on Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa. The beauty queen and actress attended the Jeanne du Barry film screening wearing a dramatic black gown. “I wanted it to be simple, classic, with a little bit of drama. This gown is adorned with feathers and crystals, cascading down to the hem that creates a halo-like effect,” Bumgarner says.
Jaclyn Jose

Any Cannes list wouldn’t be complete without the mention of seasoned actress Jaclyn Jose. Her Best Actress win for Ma'Rosa in 2016 arguably put the esteemed festival into the awareness of the Filipino public outside of film circles. For the red carpet, Jose wore a simple but elegant black dress with puffed shoulders which brings to mind a traditional terno dress.
