When Alexander Reid purchased an estate in Speyside, Scotland in 1824, he recognised the unique promise of its fertile alluvial soil and the pristine waters of the River Spey. These natural gifts created the ideal environment for crafting exceptional whisky. Almost two centuries later, The Macallan continues to honour this heritage, blending it with innovation and global ambition. This commitment is embodied in The Macallan House, which brings a piece of the storied Speyside legacy to Hong Kong.
To celebrate, The Macallan House hosted a grand opening event on June 3, drawing a constellation of stars including Korean actors Lee Jae Wook and Ryeoun, along with Hong Kong actress Louise Wong, who joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony. An aerial dance performance captivated the audience, while a contemporary lion dance added traditional flair to the celebration. Japanese top model Hikari Mori and actor Tadanobu Asano, alongside local trendsetters and influencers, joined in the festivities, amplifying the excitement of the occasion.

Located at 1 Stanley Street in Central, the three-storey, 6,000 sq ft flagship boutique is no ordinary retail space. Designed by acclaimed British architect Jamie Fobert, who is known for his transformative work on London’s National Portrait Gallery and Venice’s Fondaco dei Tedeschi, The Macallan House offers an immersive, multisensory experience that brings nature, art and the craft of whisky-making together under one roof.
The design incorporates numerous elements that showcase the brand’s dedication to heritage and craftsmanship. A striking 3D mural on the façade depicts scenes from 'The Heart of the Spirit’, a collection of poetry and illustrations that capture key moments of The Macallan’s 200-year history. Inside, copper walls echo the signature small stills and celebrate the River Spey; oak flooring pays homage to the sherry-seasoned casks that shape the whisky’s distinctive flavours; and accents of red honour founder Alexander Reid, adding a touch of historical reverence.
