‘Bling Empire’ star Lynn Ban dies at 51

Lynn Ban, star of Netflix’s Bling Empire: New York and renowned Singaporean jeweller, passed away on January 20, 2025, at 51. Her death followed complications from a skiing accident in Aspen, Colorado, on Christmas Eve, which resulted in a brain bleed and necessitated emergency surgery.

Ban’s son, Sebastian, announced her passing today on Instagram, sharing heartfelt family photos and expressing, “My mum passed away on Monday. I know she wanted to share her journey after her accident and brain surgery, so I thought she would appreciate one last post sharing the news to people who supported her.”

Born in Singapore and raised in New York, Ban was a prominent figure in the fashion industry. She launched her eponymous jewellery line in 2011, quickly gaining acclaim for her bold and avant-garde designs. Her edgy creations adorned numerous celebrities, including Rihanna and Lady Gaga, solidifying her reputation as a visionary designer.

In 2020, Ban graced the cover of Tatler Singapore’s March issue titled The New Asia: The Most Powerful, Influential and Stylish People to Know in 2020. Ban and 116 other changemakers were featured as socially minded leaders working to make the world a better place. Reflecting on the recognition, Ban shared: “I’m proud to be a part of this creative, impactful and powerful New Asia whose myriad achievements are being recognised on an international scale.”

Ban expanded her influence by joining the cast of Netflix’s Bling Empire: New York in 2023, sharing a glimpse into her glitzy life and glamorous style philosophy with a global audience. Her vibrant personality and unique style left an indelible mark on both the show and its viewers.

Tributes have poured in from friends, fans, and fellow cast members. Dorothy Wang, fellow Bling Empire star, reflected on their time together: “Many know you for your fierce fashions, but I will always remember you for your softness; your immense kindness, that girly giggle, your generosity, and love for your family and friends.” Longtime friend and collaborator Rihanna paid a similarly heartfelt tribute to the late jeweller on Instagram, writing, “Lynn, you will always be our fairy godmother! Love you forever and always … thank you for all the joy you brought to us!”

Ban is survived by her husband, Jett Kain, and their son, Sebastian. Her legacy as a pioneering designer and exuberant television personality will continue to inspire and influence the fashion world for years to come.
