BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.81 percent to 3,419.56 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.26 percent higher at 10,978.3 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at approximately 1.79 trillion yuan (about 249.77 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.61 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to the dairy and insurance sectors led the gains, while those related to the military electronic sector suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.8 percent to close at 2,226.72 points. ■
