The Oscars 2025 was filled with dazzling red carpet looks envisioned by talented designers from across the globe. Amid a dominance of Western fashion houses, a few Asian designers did steal the limelight.
While Robert Wun continues his reign as one of the most exciting couturiers of our generation, the designs of Chinese designer Markgong made its first appearance at the Academy Awards red carpet on none other than Blackpink’s Lisa. Beyond these avant-garde ensembles, Asian designers also left their mark in the accessories department—from India’s Sabyasachi to Hong Kong’s Sauvereign who stunned with their artisanal objects.

Before making history as the first K-pop artist to perform on the Oscars stage, Lisa suited up on the red carpet in a custom look by emerging Chinese designer Mark Gong. Marked by a floor sweeping tuxedo jacket with a laced-up back detail, the look by his eponymous label was made complete with a maxi shirt dress styled over a pair of flared trousers.
This isn’t the first time the Chinese designer has dressed powerful female figures in music. Along with Lisa, his designs have been spotted on the likes of Rihanna, Doja Cat and Sabrina Carpenter, as well as fellow Blackpink members Jennie and Rosé. The brand’s universe is a love letter to the so-called Gong Girl—the modern woman who embraces her carefree and rebellious spirit through quotidian styling as well as edgy takes on tailoring and classic wardrobe essentials.

It’s no surprise that Robert Wun’s otherworldly designs made its mark on the Oscars 2025 red carpet. This time, the Hong Kong couturier dressed influencer Bretman Rock in a bronze ensemble marked by his signature sunray pleats and fluid drapes. Often infused with cinematic references, the talent’s custom creations that tend to also feature corset and harness elements have also been embraced by entertainment titans Beyoncé, Adele, Lady Gaga and Cardi B.
Last year, the couturier celebrated his eponymous label’s 10-year anniversary by hosting a show in Hong Kong’s Palace Museum that was held in partnership with Tatler Asia.

American actress Goldie Hawn took the golden opportunity to shine at the Oscars 2025 red carpet with a pavé diamond high jewellery necklace by Sabyasachi.
The man behind the dazzling masterpiece is the acclaimed Indian fashion, bridal wear and jewellery designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. This year, his namesake brand celebrated its 25th anniversary with a 150-look collection that leveraged the expertise of 3,000 artisans across India to introduce the country’s rich heritage in arts and crafts to a global audience.

Another Hong Kong designer made an impact at the Oscars 2025. After creating a 18-karat solid gold brooch for last year’s Best Actor winner Cillian Murphy, Sauvereign debuts the Endeavours Brooch made especially for The Brutalist (2024) director Brady Corbet. According to the artisanal objects designer Bertrand Mak, the brooch speaks to the film by taking inspiration from Brutalist concrete monuments in Yugoslavia that commemorate World War II victims and survivors.
“I am proud to collaborate with Brady Corbet, an extremely talented writer-director who is audacious and unafraid to follow his dreams,” Sauvereign founder Bertrand Mak said. “I have always sought to build meaningful and precious narratives through my Sauvereign creations, and I was deeply inspired by his creative philosophies as well as the messages conveyed by his films. I offer my congratulations to the director on his resounding success, which is an encouragement to us and all who are dedicated to creating beauty in unique and unconventional forms.”
