Car recycling factory fire discharges toxic smoke across Chon Buri
Firefighters were scrambling this morning to contain a blaze at a car recycling facility, located near Ban Som School in Ban Bueng district in Chon Buri province.
The fire broke out in Khlong Kiew sub-district, generating thick plumes of black smoke that drifted towards the neighbouring sub-districts of Nong Phai Kaeo and Nong I-run.
Authorities warned that strong winds in the area were causing the dense smoke to spread rapidly and issued a health advisory, warning nearby residents to guard against inhalation of the smoke.
Exposure to the toxic smoke could cause nasal irritation, a sore throat, coughing and breathing difficulties, with vulnerable groups urged to take extra precautions.
People living downwind of heavily affected areas were advised to evacuate temporarily to safer locations until the situation is under control.
Emergency response teams remain at the scene as efforts to extinguish the fire continue.
