Three Thai crewmen confirmed dead in Hormuz strike
Three missing Thai crew members aboard the Mayuree Naree bulk carrier have been confirmed dead after the vessel was struck by an Iranian missile on March 11 in the Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow told the media on Wednesday.
He said rescue teams from Iran and Oman had found their bodies on board the Thai-flagged vessel, and expressed his deep condolences to the families of the three victims. He added that the victims’ families will be fully compensated.
Sihasak said he will visit Oman on April 15 and 16 at the invitation of his Omani counterpart, adding that the main purpose of the visit is to express the Thai government’s appreciation to Oman for its role in rescuing the remaining Thai crew members from the vessel.
He also said that, during the visit, he will ask Oman to help negotiate with Iran to allow nine Thai-flagged vessels—five of which are carrying fertilizer—to pass through the Strait of Hormuz during the two-week ceasefire period.
