No recount for Chon Buri as EC orders fresh polls in Bangkok, Nan, Udon Thani
The Election Commission (EC) has rejected calls by protesters for a vote recount in Constituency 1 in Muang district of Chon Buri province, on the grounds that there is no evidence that the original count was unfair.
The EC also rejected calls for recount in Constituency 1 of Maha Sarakham province.
The Commission has, however, ordered a recount in one constituency in Pathum Thani and fresh elections to be held in Constituency 9 in Bangkok, Constituency 1 in Nan province and Constituency 6 in Udon Thani.
In Constituency 9 in Kanna Yao district of Bangkok, the EC reported that a rainstorm at the time votes were being counted at polling station 15 damaged some ballots, making it impossible for election officials to complete the count, resulting in the count’s suspension.
A fresh election will be held at polling station 15 on February 22.
In Constituency 1 in Muang district of Nan province, the EC reports that the election committee there suspended the count after it was discovered that election officials had accidentally torn up 69 ballots, making it impossible for officials to determine the candidate numbers selected by the voters.
A fresh election will be held at polling station 3 in Constituency 1, but only for the constituency election.
In Udon Thani’s Constituency 6, the count was suspended because 16 ballots were accidentally torn up by election officials at polling station 4. The EC said that a fresh election will be held on February 22 for party-list seats only.
A recount will also be held in Constituency 7 in Pathum Thani province, said the EC.
