Motorcycle rider seriously injured by moving train in Makkasan
A man was seriously injured when he received a glancing blow from a moving train in Bangkok’s Makkasan district this morning.
He was rushed to Phramongkutklao Hospital for emergency treatment.
The location of the incident is only about 800 metres from where a freight train collided with a passenger bus on Saturday, killing eight and injuring many others.
Pol Lt Chanart Prada of Makkasan police told the radio station that the injured man, a motorcycle taxi rider working for a ride-hailing app, had parked his motorcycle near to the tracks on Kamphaeng Phet Road while he ran some errands.
Police said the rider appears not to have heard the approaching train because he was wearing earphones and a helmet.
Sunan Puengprom, a witness, said that before the incident he had been buying food near the scene when he heard a vendor shouting that a train was approaching.
He looked in the direction of the shouting and saw the injured man standing beside the railway tracks. He said he tried shouting to warn the man, but received no response.
At the same time, the train driver had been repeatedly sounding the horn for some time before reaching the spot where the man was standing, but the man remained motionless until the train struck him, causing him to fall.
Sunan and the vendor rushed to help the injured man and found that he was wearing a helmet and earphones.
After the incident, the train driver stopped and got down to check on the injured man before moving the train to Khlong Tan railway station and reporting to investigators at Makkasan police station.
