Insurgent IED injures Ranger in Pattani’s Yaring district
A paramilitary ranger was injured and a vehicle damaged when a roadside IED targeted a security patrol in Yaring district of Pattani province this afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 2.25pm on Highway 42, near Moo (housing estate) 1 in Ban Pahohae of Baloi sub-district.
The Southern Border Provinces Emergency Radio Centre received reports of an attack by an unidentified group of insurgents, who detonated a roadside device targeting a small truck belonging to the Royal Thai Marine Corps.
The officer injured in the blast was immediately rushed to a local hospital for treatment. He has only been identified as a 28-year-old Petty Officer 1st Class named ‘Jennarong’.
He sustained shrapnel wounds to his left temple but remains conscious. Medical staff performed a CT scan before transferring him to Pattani Hospital for further treatment.
The force of the explosion also caused significant damage to the vehicle.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
