China has expressed support for Thailand and Cambodia’s efforts to consolidate a ceasefire and rebuild bilateral relations, according to a joint statement.

The statement, issued after a trilateral meeting at Fuxian Lake in Kunming on Monday, said China has offered assistance in humanitarian aid, demining operations, support for displaced civilians, and regional monitoring mechanisms.

China also said it backs the work of the Joint Boundary Commission, in line with the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting held on Dec. 27, 2025.

The two-day meeting was initiated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and attended by his Thai and Cambodian counterparts, Sihasak Phuangkhetkeow and Prak Sokhonn.

China is ready to provide support to Cambodia and Thailand in advancing humanitarian demining through the Joint Coordinating Task Force and bilateral arrangements.

It also pledged substantive assistance to the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to ensure its effective functioning.

The Chinese military will maintain contact with the Thai and Cambodian militaries to support the consolidation of the ceasefire when necessary and upon request by both countries, the statement added.

According to the statement, the next key step is the resumption of normal exchanges and communication at all levels. China welcomed both sides’ efforts to restore cooperation and assist displaced people in border areas to return to normal life, in line with the December 27 joint statement.

China said it is prepared to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to address the livelihood needs of displaced people in affected border areas.

The statement also noted that Thailand and Cambodia agreed to work toward rebuilding political mutual trust.

China welcomed renewed engagement through diplomatic channels and increased contact between the two foreign ministers.

Both sides further agreed to foster a positive atmosphere for the planned fifth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting, to be held in Thailand at an appropriate time, and to ensure its success.

In the longer term, China encouraged Cambodia and Thailand to improve bilateral relations and create conditions for the gradual resumption of normal diplomatic ties.

China said it is willing, when necessary, to provide platforms to facilitate more comprehensive and effective communication between the two sides.

Thailand and Cambodia reaffirmed their commitment to resolving disputes by peaceful means and to working with regional countries to address common risks and challenges, in accordance with the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and the

Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

The three countries also agreed to take stronger measures to combat transboundary crimes, including telecommunications and online scams, to protect the lives and property of people in the region.

Thailand and Cambodia expressed appreciation for China’s role in promoting talks between the two countries, while taking into account the comfort levels of both sides.

China said it will continue to play a constructive role in facilitating trust-building and achieving lasting peace between the two countries “in the Asian way,” with the aim of building a community with a shared future among neighboring countries.
