Missing girl found dead 600 metres from Kanchanaburi home
A seven-year-old girl who went missing from her home on Saturday was found dead in a bamboo grove on Monday, about 600 metres from her home in Plang Pley sub-district, Kanchanaburi.
Police said the girl, identified only as "Nong Agoon", was dressed in a black T-shirt and pink shorts, which were torn.
A pair of pink slippers was found nearby. Police initially estimated that she had been dead for about three days when her remains were discovered, with bruises around her neck. The body has been taken to a district hospital for an autopsy.
A massive search involving military personnel, police, rescue volunteers, border patrol officers and officials from Khao Laem National Park was launched after her parents reported her missing on Saturday.
Today, a rubber tapper found the girl's body hidden in a bamboo grove within a rubber plantation, about 600 metres from her parents' home.
Police said they have detained an undocumented Myanmar national for questioning. He reportedly appeared in the village recently seeking work.
He has denied harming the girl.
