King grants royal patronage to victims of tragic monk pilgrimage accident
His Majesty the King has graciously granted royal patronage to the monks injured and killed in a tragic road accident in Mukdahan province on Thursday, the Royal Household Bureau announced on Friday.
The incident occurred when a pickup truck plowed into a procession of pilgrimage monks walking along Highway 2034, which connects Mukdahan's provincial seat and Don Tan district. The crash happened at the 6-kilometre marker near Ban Na Wiang Kae in Na Si Nuan sub-district of Muang district.
The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of 10 monks, while several others sustained injuries.
Upon learning of the tragedy, His Majesty the King took all the injured monks under royal patronage for their medical treatment and will sponsor the funeral rites for those who died.
