Typhoon Dolphin will not directly hit Thailand, says Weatherman

Typhoon Dolphin remains far out in the Pacific Ocean and is tracking towards Japan and China, heading directly towards Thailand, according to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) on Sunday.

The weather bureau reported that, although the typhoon is not heading this way, it could indirectly intensify the monsoon covering Thailand between Aug 7 and 9. This could lead to increased heavy rainfall in several regions, but especially across the north and far northeast.

Meanwhile, a tropical depression located east of the Philippines may briefly strengthen into a tropical storm. Forecasters expect it to be absorbed and weakened by the larger typhoon, though, posing no direct threat to Thailand.

The TMD reported that current rain across the country is primarily being driven by a seasonal monsoon trough and monsoonal winds, rather than the movement of Typhoon Dolphin.

Authorities are advising the public not to panic over online rumours, emphasising that current data shows no indication of the storm entering Thailand.

Everyone is, nonetheless, encouraged to monitor official updates from the weather bureau periodically.
