Democrats to field candidates in Bangkok governor race
The Democrat Party will field candidates in Bangkok’s gubernatorial and city council elections on June 28, party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva announced today.
He said the party is currently in discussions with a potential candidate for governor and is screening candidates for the city council, adding that he will inform the media once the process is complete.
Asked whether the potential gubernatorial candidate is a party member, Abhisit said only that the individual “used to be associated with the party.”
The term of incumbent governor Chadchart Sittipunt is due to expire on May 21. He is reportedly planning to run for a second term as an independent.
