Police General Hospital doctor accused of trafficking psychotropic substances

Police and officials from the Thai Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) have raided a police apartment in Bangkok, rented by a female police officer who is also a doctor at the Police General Hospital (PGH), and seized a large quantity of psychotropic substances.

Public Health Vice Minister Thanakrit Chitarirat told the media today that Thai FDA officials and the police became suspicious after the suspect officer had placed numerous personal orders for psychotropic substances since 2022, for delivery to her.

Further investigation also discovered that she had allegedly ordered the substances via 11 private clinics in Bangkok, said Thanakrit, adding that about 80 million baht was found to be circulating through her bank accounts.

Armed with a court warrant, the police and Thai FDA officials raided her apartment and found an unidentified man there, who is believed to have been hired to look after the room and its belongings.

Police allege that the room was being used as an outlet for the trading and distribution of psychotropic substances to buyers, who were mostly young people.

A police officer said that the female doctor may face disciplinary action for sub-renting the room to an “outsider” and criminal charges for the possession of and trafficking in psychotropic substances.
