US delegation praises Thai law enforcement, PM says

A high-level United States law enforcement delegation has praised Thailand’s security initiatives, particularly its robust crackdown on transnational crime, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Wednesday.

US Ambassador to Thailand Sean K. O'Neill and FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey paid a courtesy call on Anutin at Government House this morning at about 8.50am, following their participation in a major regional law enforcement conference hosted by Thailand.

The delegation was escorted to Government House by Pol Gen Visanu Prasarttong-Osoth, president of the FBI National Academy Associates (FBINAA) Thailand Chapter.

The meeting was also attended by Benjamin G. Virtue, the legal attaché at the US Embassy in Bangkok.

Speaking to members of the press, Anutin revealed that the American officials had commended Thailand's performance across all areas of bilateral security cooperation but, when questioned by reporters regarding the specific nature of the discussions, the Prime Minister declined to provide further information.

While official details of the closed-door meeting are classified, sources close to the matter indicate that the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation to tackle increasingly complex and borderless cybercrimes and transnational criminal networks.

The visit took place against the backdrop of the 26th FBINAA Asia Pacific Chapter Retraining Conference, which officially began on Tuesday.

This annual conference serves as a crucial regional security forum, at which law enforcement officers can coordinate strategies against borderless syndicated crime.
