Pheu Thai accuses PM Anutin of dissolving House to dodge scrutiny

The Pheu Thai party today described PM Anutin Charnvirakul’s abrupt House dissolution as an attempt to evade scrutiny, calling it proof of the administration’s failures in governing the country.

Pheu Thai’s leader, Julapun Amornvivat, said the decision to dissolve parliament was “a deliberate move to avoid accountability and public scrutiny” over what he described as a string of failures.

He said he was referring to the mishandling of border tensions, politicisation of civil service reshuffles, budget allocations favouring specific groups and an inadequate response to the severe flooding which cost lives and property nationwide.

He added that distortions of the justice system and the lack of transparency in several key cases further reflect the administration’s incompetence.

Julapun also criticised the government for a lack of sincerity in its promises to amend the constitution. Instead, he said, the process created opportunities for the Bhumjaithai party to exploit state power and resources for political gain.

The party claims, nonetheless, that it is fully prepared for the general election and will introduce its three prime-ministerial candidates on December 16, with a campaign theme of “Reboot Thailand: Pheu Thai Can Deliver.”

Pheu Thai’s secretary general, Prasert Jantararuangtong, added that the party gathered all prospective MP candidates this morning, to brief them on campaign procedures and election readiness.

The party will field candidates in all 400 constituencies and said it can begin the official election process immediately upon the Election Commission’s announcement, regardless of the polling date.
