Bangkok police bust suspected scam and gambling centre, arrest 11
Police raided a Chinese-run scam centre in Bangkok’s Sai Mai district on Wednesday, arresting 11 Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in the operation.
Police allege that the centre was also being used for illegal gambling activities.
Officers seized 58 mobile phones, about 100 Malaysian SIM cards, 10 laptop computers, three desktop computers and one tablet from a rented house near the motorway in Sai Mai district.
Police said they received a tip-off from a Chinese man who had allegedly been lured into working at the centre. He managed to escape and report the operation to police.
Following the tip-off, officers launched an investigation and discovered that the suspected scam centre had been operating undetected for almost two months.
Police said the illegal gambling activities were linked to the “Hong Kuan” network.
Some suspects allegedly involved in the scam operation managed to flee during the raid, and police are searching for them.
