Hun Manet claims ceasefire is not Cambodia’s surrender
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said this morning that the ceasefire agreement with Thailand is not a surrender by Cambodia.
He also said Cambodia is not willing to trade its territorial integrity for peace.
In a post on Facebook this morning, Hun Manet also insisted on Cambodia’s right to self-defence.
Thailand and Cambodia signed a ceasefire agreement on Saturday following weeks of intense border clashes.
“Choosing to implement this ceasefire does not mean that Cambodia has surrendered or is willing to trade its territorial integrity for peace, and it does not mean that Cambodia has lost its ability or has abandoned its right to self-defense,” he said.
Hun Manet said the ceasefire agreement demonstrated Cambodia’s decision “to pursue a path of peace and to preserve the lives and well-being of its people as its first and highest priority, no matter how much pressure or difficulty it faces.”
