Commerce ministry and chain stores to hold discount sales from April 1st
The Ministry of Commerce has worked with four modern chain stores to arrange for over 1,000 essential goods to be sold at discounts starting April 1st, to help ease the financial burden of rising oil prices.
The four chain stores are Lotus, Makro, Tops and GO Warehouse.
Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, director-general of the Business Development Department, said today that more than 1,000 own brand and second-tier brand consumer products, such as soaps, detergents, toothpastes, rice, sugars, palm oil, seasoning sauces, canned foods and instant noodles, will be available at discounts ranging from 25% to 50%.
Meanwhile, officials from the Internal Trade Department conducted random checks on more than 3,400 outlets across the country between March 5th and 27th, to ensure that they are strictly complying with the law by displaying prices on their goods. 25 outlets were found to have broken the law.
