Narathiwat curfew lifted to restore normal life, boost tourism
Less than a day after the imposition of the 9pm-5am curfew in Narathiwat province, the Narathiwat Task Force has done an about-turn, ordering the lifting of the curfew today, claiming that the situation in the province is now under control.
Also eased are the restrictions on border crossings by travellers, goods and vehicles, as are the stops and searches by military personnel, a power granted under martial law.
The task force said that the easing of the security measures took effect at 9am today and is intended to free people to carry on with their normal lives, promote tourism and help the economy.
The curfew was imposed last night following bomb and fire attacks on 11 PTT petrol stations in Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani province by insurgent groups.
