Anwar calls Thai, Cambodian leaders to discuss border clashes
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today he has spoken to both the Thai and Cambodian leaders to discuss the ongoing border clashes between the two countries.
“I appreciate the openness and willingness of both leaders to continue negotiations aimed at easing tensions and preventing any misunderstandings that could further escalate the situation,” said Anwar in a Facebook post.
He said Malaysia will continue to support peaceful dialogue, solutions grounded on international law, and strengthened regional cooperation to safeguard the stability and security of the region.
“While a definitive resolution has yet to be reached, sustained diplomatic engagement has ensured that no more serious incidents occurred during these critical hours.” he said.
Spokesman of the Thai Foreign Ministry Nikorndej Balankura confirmed the phone conversation between the Thai and Malaysian leaders. He quoted Anutin as telling Anwar that Thailand at moment is not ready for a dialogue with Cambodia and a third-party mediation.
