Former ranger shot dead in Yala ambush
A former paramilitary ranger was shot dead in a targeted ambush on Friday night in Yala's Raman district, near the border with Narathiwat province, local officials reported.
The attack took place at around 9pm on May 22 in Moo 1 village of Jakwah sub-district, an area bordering Ban Taya in Suwari sub-district of Narathiwat's Rueso district. The Kamnan of Jakwah sub-district alerted local authorities shortly after the shooting.
The victim has been identified as Isma-ae Maseelah, approximately 50 years old. He was a former ranger previously attached to the 47th Paramilitary Ranger Regiment and was pronounced dead at the scene.
EMTs transferred Isma-ae’s body to Raman Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Security officers and forensic experts are currently inspecting the scene and gathering evidence. A full investigation has been launched to determine the motive behind the killing and to track down the perpetrators, authorities said.
