Thai King and Queen begin first overseas royal visit to Bhutan
Their Majesties the King and the Queen of Thailand started a historic four-day royal to Bhutan today, as guests of Bhutan’s monarch, to strengthen bilateral ties and promote mutual well-being and developmental cooperation.
The royal visit will be the first official foreign visit by King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida.
They were received by the Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema at the Paro International Airport, near Thimphu, the capital.
The Thai King and Queen were honoured with a formal reception, which included a guard of honour.
The Bhutanese royals will host a regal banquet at the magnificent Dechencholing Palace.
Tomorrow, Their Majesties will take part in a solemn ceremony at the iconic Buddha Dordenma, a colossal statue that epitomises Bhutan’s Buddhist essence.
There, 74 Thai and 74 Bhutanese monks will chant to offer the blessing.
