Mass shooting at Nonthaburi school, seven dead

The shooting took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School this morning, with at least 15 people reported injured. At the time of this report, seven people were killed, including three teachers, three students, and the gunman.

The gunman initially holed up inside the compound, preventing authorities from clearing the area. It is now reported that the shooter, a 14-year-old male student in the ninth grade, has also been found dead by committing suicide.

Officials emphasise that facts surrounding the shooting are still being established and ask the public to await an official update.

After receiving an urgent progress report from Permanent Secretary for Interior Arsit Sampantharat, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered Deputy Interior Minister Polapee Suwanchawee to visit the scene immediately.

Anutin also expressed shock and sadness over the mass shooting and expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the dead students and teachers, adding that he did not expect such a tragedy to happen in Thailand, saying that the problem of gun violence had prompted his government to ban the renewal of licenses to carry handguns by unauthorised people and to restrict the possession of firearms.

According to Arsit, the Nonthaburi governor is en route to the site as well. Initial reports indicate that a student opened fire on teachers inside the school, resulting in multiple casualties and deaths.

Reports later revealed that at a residence inside Soi Wat Lad Pla Duk, the home of the student shooter, police found two victims killed, the suspect's grandparents. Such incident occurred before the gunman conducted a mass shooting at the school in Nonthaburi. The gun used in the attack belonged to the grandfather.

The grandfather was found shot to death in the kitchen, while the grandmother was found shot dead inside a bedroom. Police are currently investigating the crime scene.

Meanwhile, the suspect's father has arrived at the school and is being taken in for questioning as police conduct an intense interrogation.
