300kg of crystal methamphetamine seized from a van in Nakhon Pathom
A combined force of the army and the police intercepted a van last night in Samphran district of Nakhon Pathom province and seized about 300kg of crystal methamphetamine or ‘Ice’, with a street value of about 30 million baht, hidden in specially-built compartments.
The three hill tribesmen in the van were taken into custody for questioning.
Pol. Gen. Samran Nualma, the deputy national police chief, told a press conference today that a police and army team had tracked the van since it left Mae Sot district of the northern province of Tak, heading for Nong Khai province in the northeastern region, instead of heading directly towards the central region so as not to attract police attention.
After passing through Nong Khai, the van with its hidden cache of illegal narcotics, then changed direction to head for the central region, with Nakhon Pathom being its destination. The plan was to park the drugs there before being distributed to various communities in Thon Buri.
The team decided to stop the van as left a house in Samphran district of Nakhon Pathom.
Police reported that the same gang had previously succeeded in smuggling two huge drug shipments from the Myanmar border into Nakhon Pathom.
