‘Thai Tiew Thai Plus’ co-payment tourism stimulus scheme to be launched
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is gearing up for the launch of the ‘Thai Tiew Thai Plus’ (Thai Travel Thai Plus) co-payment scheme to boost domestic tourism and will extend the length of stay in the kingdom, from 15 to 30 days, for “quality” tourists, particularly those from India who plan to hold wedding celebrations in Thailand and travel as families.
Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul said today that, under the scheme, the tax payer will cover 50% of the accommodation cost of Thai travellers up to 3,000 baht per “entitlement”, plus 500 baht food and travelling expense digital coupons, with the subsidies to be distributed via the ‘pao tang’ application.
He said that the government will also promote air travel, by subsidising air fares on participating airlines by 400 baht per flight for travel between primary provinces and 600 baht per flight for travel between secondary provinces.
Moreover, he said that the ministry will roll out the ‘Thailand All Connect’ scheme to promote chartered flights, with the aim of attracting more tourists to visit Thailand.
No timeframe has been announced for the launch of the scheme though.
As far as tourist safety is concerned, the minister said the ministry will coordinate closely with the tourist police over a plan to introduce AI facial scanning technology and publicity campaigns leveraging both Thai and foreign social media influencers.
