Thai task force seizes Bt10m in generators bound for Myanmar
The Surasi Task Force detained three Thai nationals last night for allegedly attempting to smuggle power generators and electrical control cabinets into Myanmar.
The arrests were made on Highway 323 (the Sangkhla Buri–Three Pagodas Pass route) in Moo 8 of Nong Lu sub-district in Sangkhla Buri district of Kanchanaburi province, near the Thai-Myanmar border.
Two diesel generators and four electrical control cabinets were seized from the suspects’ three trucks. The confiscated items are estimated to be worth about 10 million baht.
The generators were marked with Chinese characters. When asked to provide customs clearance documents, the drivers were unable to produce any.
During initial questioning, the suspects admitted they had been hired by a shipping company to transport the goods from Lat Ya sub-district in Kanchanaburi to a customer near the Three Pagodas Pass border crossing.
Police said the investigation will be expanded to include the owners of the shipping company.
