Heavy rain advisories issued for Bangkok, the East and South
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy downpours across Bangkok and its vicinity, the East and the extreme South today, advising residents to brace for flash floods.
According to the 24-hour forecast issued this morning, the unsettled weather is due to a moderate southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with a low-pressure cell hanging over northern Vietnam.
People living in areas at-risk, particularly low-lying regions and communities near waterways, are urged to remain vigilant against sudden flooding and forest runoffs caused by accumulated rainfall.
Bangkok and its surrounding provinces are expected to be hit the hardest, with thunderstorms forecast to cover 70% of the area, alongside isolated heavy rainfall. Temperatures will range from a low of 24°C to a high of 36°C.
The eastern region and both southern coasts will see rain across 60% of their areas. Heavy downpours are anticipated in several provinces, including Nakhon Nayok, Chon Buri, Rayong, Trat, Surat Thani, Songkhla, Phuket and Krabi.
Meanwhile, the North, Northeast, and the central plains can expect a slightly clearer day, with thunder showers forecast to affect about 40% of these regions.
In the northern Andaman Sea, conditions remain moderate with wave heights reaching 1–2 metres. Waves in the southern Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to average around 1 metre, but could surge past 2 metres during thunderstorms.
Marine authorities have advised all mariners to navigate with caution and to avoid stormy areas completely.
