Three stranded flood victims rescued in Nan
Border patrol officers braved strong currents from an overflowing creek to rescue a family of three stranded in their heavily-flooded house in Pua district of Thailand’s northern province of Nan today.
After being alerted by Udom Jitaree, the mayor of the Sathan Sub-district Administrative Organization, that several villagers were stranded by floodwater in their houses in his sub-district and were unable to leave due to the strong currents, the 325th company of the Border Patrol Police, based in Pua district, quickly dispatched a rescue team to help.
They waded through strong currents towards a flooded house and managed to take the three stranded people, a man, a woman and a girl, to safety. Several other stranded villagers were also rescued.
The Nan provincial administration has declared 12 sub-districts in Pua district, covering 107 villages, to be emergency disaster zones today, due to flash flooding, landslides and overflows.
The sub-districts are Sathan, Chedi Chai, Ngaeng, Wora Nakhon, Phu Kha, Chai Watthana, Silapetch, Ouan, Pua, Sakat, Sila Laeng and Pa Klang.
