Construction on Rama 2 Road to be completed in June next year
Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit gave his assurance today that the three road projects, currently under construction on the Rama 2 Road (Highway 35), will be completed and opened to traffic in the middle of next year.
The Rama 3-Dao Khanong western ring road project, which is the responsibility of the Expressway Authority of Thailand, is now 80.92% complete and is expected to open to traffic in June next year, while the bridge running parallel to the Rama 9 bridge is due to open at the end of this year, according to the minister.
The second project, which is an 8.3km elevated road between Bang Khun Thian and Ekachai, is the responsibility of the Highways Department. Construction is expected to be completed in November and it will be opened for a trial run between two toll plazas, Panthai Norasing and Mahachai, at the end of the year.
Suriya said that he has instructed the Highways Department to accelerate the construction of the entrance to and exit from the Rama 3-Dao Khanong-western ring road, so that they can be opened to traffic on schedule.
The third project is the 16.3km section of the Bang Khun Thian-Ban Phaeo elevated motorway, between Ekachai and Ban Phaeo, said Suriya, adding that the section must be completed by the end of June next year, so the motorway can be opened to traffic in 2027.
The minister said he has instructed agencies concerned to tighten up controls on contractors, to ensure that they adhere strictly to safety standards, so that there will be no accidents during the construction which could be harmful to motorists.
