Man drives car into swimming pool after dispute with mother

A 29-year-old man drove his car into a swimming pool on a university campus in Bangkok's Pathum Wan district today, probably out of stress following a heated argument with his mother, who refused to help pay his condominium rent.

Police were alerted to the incident at about 5.45am. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a white SUV submerged in a swimming pool on the university campus.

The driver, whose name has been withheld, sustained minor injuries and was rescued by emergency responders before being taken to a nearby hospital.

The police's preliminary investigation found that the driver had been involved in a dispute with his mother after asking her to help pay his rent of about 27,000 baht per month, which she refused to do.

According to police, the man later drove into the university compound and headed towards the pool. Security guards tried to stop him, but to no avail. He accelerated, crashed through a barrier and drove the vehicle into the water.

No other injuries were reported.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, including examining the driver's mental state and the motives behind his actions.
