นายโมฮัน ชาราน มาจิ มุขมนตรีรัฐโอฑิศา เปิดเผยหลังลงพื้นที่ตรวจสอบโรงพยาบาลว่า เพลิงไหม้น่าจะเกิดจากไฟฟ้าลัดวงจร ก่อนเสริมว่ามีผู้ป่วยอย่างน้อย 23 คนกำลังพักรักษาตัวอยู่ที่ห้องผู้ป่วยอาการหนัก โดยเหยื่อ 10 รายเสียชีวิตขณะถูกเคลื่อนย้ายไปยังพื้นที่ปลอดภัยห่างจากจุดเกิดเหตุ
นายมาจิกล่าวด้วยว่า “เจ้าหน้าที่ทางการแพทย์และเจ้าหน้าที่รักษาความปลอดภัยเสี่ยงชีวิตในการช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วย ระหว่างนั้นพวกเขาได้รับบาดเจ็บเช่นกันและอยู่ระหว่างเข้ารับการรักษา”

Five people were critically wounded, but it was not clear if it was from the fire or earlier injuries.
