Govt communication must be quicker, says new spokesperson

Rachada Dhnadirek, spokesperson for the new government, said she is well aware of the challenges facing both the administration and herself, given the importance of effective communication with the public.

“I feel honoured to have been appointed to this position, and I will communicate complete and accurate information to the public as much as possible to build understanding in society,” Rachada said.

Rachada, 50, was appointed to the post during a special Cabinet meeting yesterday, after the new Cabinet of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul took the oath of office before the King.

She added that performing this role amid the current oil price and energy crises is very different from the past, due to the situation, heightened expectations, and increased social media activity — all of which require more intensive work.

The spokesperson’s team must better integrate its work with ministry spokespersons and relevant agencies handling news. When issues arise, they will move quickly to provide clarity, ensuring that the information released is accurate, complete, and timely. This will require improved coordination and integration among government agencies.

She acknowledged, however, that government communication has sometimes been slow.

“In situations like this, the public has high expectations and wants timely and accurate information. Even a delay of three to four hours can feel like an entire day,” she said.

She added that efforts will be made to address this issue as effectively as possible and to listen more closely to feedback on social media.

Every voice from the public will be heard by the government, with the prime minister also being kept informed.
