Life of Moo Daeng, a stray dog living in front of a convenience store in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Muang district, will be changed after a princess announced she will adopt him.
The dog was first seen with a homeless man, dressed like a hermit, at a market in the district. The man and the dog took shelter near the convenience store
By the time the weather turned cold, they shared the blanket to keep warm.
However, in November last year, the man passed away in a hospital after falling ill, leaving the four-legged friend behind.
The dog refused to leave the area and was often seen sitting with his eyes fixed forward, seemingly waiting for the homeless man.
The convenience store staff became Moo Daeng’s caregivers, providing him with food and clothes to keep him warm. Besides food provided by the convenience store staff, passersby also gave him snacks.
When Moo Daeng appeared to gain some weight, the staff placed a sign near him, encouraging people not to give him more snacks to keep him healthy.
A Facebook page, Korat, Muang Tee Khun Sang Dai (Korat, the Province You Can Build), shared the story and photos of the loyal dog.
Moo Daeng was soon nicknamed and compared to “Hachiko of Korat.”
Hachiko was a Japanese Akita dog renowned for his remarkable loyalty to his owner, who passed away suddenly. Hachiko waited for his owner at a train station for nine years, refusing to leave.
Moo Daeng’s photos were widely shared across social media, and his story gained even more attention when foreign media outlets from Japan and Malaysia reported on him.
Witnesses noted that Moo Daeng didn’t seem camera-shy when media crews arrived to photograph him, often walking around confidently.
The latest development in Moo Daeng’s story could change his life forever: Princess Siribha Chudabhorn, HM the King’s niece, has announced that she will adopt him and take him to live in Chiang Mai province.
Upon hearing the news, many people visited Moo Daeng to bid him farewell and take pictures with him before he starts the next chapter in his life.
