Chaba Kaew strike twice to march into AFF C'ship final

In the semi-finals of the Southeast Asian championship, Thailand's Kanyanat Chetthabutr blew several chances before finding the back of the net just before half-time at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Myanmar started strongly in the second half as Thailand goalkeeper Chotmanee Thongmongkol was forced to make a couple of good saves.

Myanmar dominated for long periods but the Chaba Kaew got their second goal from substitute Saowalak Pengngam in the 82nd minute to put the match beyond Myanmar's reach.

Miyo Okamoto's team will face Vietnam or the Philippines in the final tomorrow.

Thailand are the most successful nation in the biennial tournament with four titles, followed by Vietnam with three.

Meanwhile, coach Rae Dower has finalised her Junior Matildas squad to compete at the AFF U18 Women's Championship 2022 in Palembang, Indonesia, later this month.

Australia will take 28 players to face Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines in Group B of the tournament commencing on July 22.

Thailand are in Group A with Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia.

"We're excited about the opportunity to travel to Indonesia to participate in the AFF U18 Women's Championship," Dower said.

U19 side finish fourth

In the AFF U19 Championship, Thailand had to settle for fourth place after losing 5-3 to Vietnam on penalties following a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes in the third-place play-off in Jakarta.

The Thais went ahead thanks to Sittha Boonlha's goal in the 42nd minute only for Nguyen Quoc Viet to equalise in the 54th minute.
