雷霆與第11名的獨行俠，領先0.5場勝差，同時雷霆對獨行俠有對戰優勢，雷霆只要再贏1場，或者獨行俠輸球就確定附加賽資格，獨行俠必須最後兩場都贏，還要指望雷霆輸球。

面對爵士的比賽，Shai Gilgeous-Alexander砍下全隊最高的22分，Josh Giddey 17分、8助攻、8籃板，Aaron Wiggins 15分，爵士得分最高為Kris Dunn的22分。
Gilgeous-Alexander表示，大家明白晉級狀況，也相信機會掌控在自己手上。此戰也正式宣告爵士淘汰，不過季後賽非爵士首要目標，本場有大批球員因傷缺戰。
但正式淘汰，球員仍難掩失望，Kelly Olynyk就說：「在聯盟10年，我打過季後賽，進過決賽，這就是球賽意義所在，現在感覺自然是糟糕的。」
雷霆、爵士本季都未把季後賽視為首要任務，重建是主要目標，但都打出不錯的競爭力，爵士握有不少首輪選秀權，未來有機會重返競爭行列。
