Thai national football team’s head coach, Anthony Hudson, has admitted that facing China on their home turf will be a formidable challenge, but insists that his squad is mentally prepared to fight for a positive result.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, ahead of tonight’s international friendly, Hudson, alongside veteran defender Manuel Tom Bihr, expressed confidence in the team’s preparations.

Known in Thailand as ‘The War Elephants’, the team is currently ranked 93rd in the FIFA world rankings and are scheduled to take on 94th-ranked China at 6.35pm (Thailand time) today in Jinhua, Zhejiang.

“Facing China is excellent preparation for the squad, ahead of the upcoming Asian Cup,” Hudson stated adding that the Chinese squad possesses a well-balanced mix of fresh, young talent and experienced veterans, making them a difficult test.

“My primary focus has been on building resilience within the squad to handle the unique pressures of playing away from home,” he emphasised.

Hudson said that every player is eager and ready for the match, and that he has urged them to muster immense mental toughness tonight to bring pride and joy to Thai football fans back home.

Defender Manuel Tom Bihr highlighted that, as an international friendly, special regulations will be in place, allowing both teams to make up to 11 substitutions across a maximum of three windows, excluding the half-time interval.

Furthermore, the Video Assist Referee (VAR) system will be active to assist the officials during the clash.

In an effort to maintain a quick tempo, a strict five-second limit will be enforced for throw-ins, and failure to release the ball within the timeframe will result in possession being awarded to the opposition.
