Security tightened after armed intrusion at Pattani biomass plant
An unknown number of armed intruders stormed a biomass power plant in Pattani's Nong Chik district early this morning, rounding up security personnel before an explosion was heard within the facility.
A ranger task force was alerted to the intrusion at around 12.40am this morning by the Pattani Green Biomass Power Plant in Lipasango sub-district.
The intruders entered the facility through its rear section before threatening plant personnel with firearms and forcing them and security guards to gather at the front entrance.
An explosion was subsequently heard within the plant compound.
The task force deployed forces to secure the area, setting up checkpoints and roadblocks around the site.
Officials are currently inspecting the scene, assessing the damage, collecting forensic evidence and pursuing those responsible for the incident.
No injuries or fatalities had been reported at press time.
Security measures have since been strengthened in the area to reassure residents and businesses and the public has been urged to follow information released through official channels and refrain from sharing unverified reports that could cause confusion or hinder ongoing operations.
