Two Thai soldiers injured in border clash with Cambodian forces in Si Sa Ket

Two Thai soldiers were injured in a clash with Cambodian troops at the border in Kantharalak district of Si Sa Ket province on Sunday.

According to initial reports, the fighting took place in a border area known as Phupha Lek-Plarn Hin Paed Korn, where Thai troops exchanged small arms fire with Cambodian soldiers at about 2.15pm.

Soon after, the Cambodian troops fired artillery shells, prompting the Second Army Region to respond in kind, according to the rules of engagement. The exchange of fire stopped at about 2.50pm, but Thai troops there are now on high alert.

The two injured soldiers have been identified as Sgt Anuchart Ruekham, who was shot in the leg, while the other, Pvt Pornchai Champachum, sustained bruises from a shot which hit the body armour protecting his chest. Both were taken to the Kantharalak district hospital for treatment.
