Jakarta: US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo spoke with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi about the US-Indonesia Strategic Partnership and the two countries’ shared goal of respect for international law in the South China Sea.

"Secretary Pompeo and Foreign Minister Marsudi highlighted the importance of increased public health and economic cooperation to rebuild our economies and keep the region safe," US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Cale Brown said in a statement on Monday.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) recently donated 100 state-of-the-art ventilators to the Indonesian government to assist its fight against covid-19.

The donated ventilators reflect cutting-edge and in-demand technology. They are compact and deployable and can support both invasive and non-invasive applications. The US Government assistance provided includes accompanying equipment, warranties, and shipping.

Along with the ventilators, USAID will fund training for health workers using the equipment along with standard operating procedures and maintenance so that hospitals can help more patients recover.

Beyond this donation, US emergency assistance to support Indonesia’s fight against covid-19 totals approximately $11 million.
