TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government will use the incoming demography bonus as a momentum to develop innovation-based human resources in tandem with the priority national development programs it has launched to promote the quality of human resources.
"From 2020 to 2024, we will be at the peak of the demographic bonus period meaning that Indonesia is predicted to have larger productive age population (aged 15- 64 years)," expert staff to the industry minister for communication Masrokhan said in a written statement released on Sunday.
Indonesia should make use of the potential demographic bonus properly to boost the national economic growth.
"As Mr. President Joko Widodo has stated, if we focus on improving the quality of human resources through new ways we believe the demographic bonus will serve as a leap of progress," he said.
To that end, the government launched a roadmap Making Indonesia 4.0 as a manifestation of the preparedness to enter the industrial era 4.0. One of the points stressed in the roadmap is spurring the competency of human resources in the industrial field, he said.
The industrial sector has consistently given the biggest contribution to the national economic growth, he added.
Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) show the industrial sector contributed 19.52 percent of the national gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2019 .
"The performance of the manufacturing industry still appears to be aggressive owing to business expansion and new investment," he said.
The Industry Ministry recorded investment in the manufacturing sector increased to Rp226.18 trillion in 2018 compared to Rp195.74 trillion in 2014. This reflects the investment climate in Indonesia remains conducive owing to the government's efforts to ease licensing procedures and facilitate fiscal and non-fiscal incentives.
"The increase in investment is a key to our competitive edge besides it has a continued effect including on the creation of new jobs," he said. .
The number of people employed in the industrial sector was recorded at 15.54 million in 2015 and increased 17.4 percent to 18 million in 2018.
