Jakarta: General Elections Commission (KPU) chairman Arief Budiman has said the official results of the 2019 simultaneous general and presidential elections will be announced on May 22.
"You can use quick count surveys as a reference and information. But let's wait for the officials results from KPU," the KPU leader told the press on Wednesday.
"The election process was very transparant. It was monitored by many observers," he remarked.
Indonesia held its first-ever simultaneous general and presidential elections on Wednesday. Voters elected the president, vice president and members of national and local legislative bodies on the same day.
Based on the official data from the General Elections Commission (KPU), as many as 192 million people were eligible to vote this year. In the meantime, more than 800 thousand polling stations were open across the country.
According to reports, the polling stations were guarded by 270 thousand police officers and 70 thousand military personnel. In addition to that, police and military were assisted by 1.6 million community protection (linmas) officers.
This year, 16 national political parties took part on a national level. In Aceh, Four local political parties took part on a provincial level.
Similar with the 2014 presidential race, this year's 2019 presidential race was contested by Jokowi and Prabowo Subianto. Five years ago, Jokowi won 53 percent of the votes against the opposition leader.
Several hours after the polling stations were closed, almost all quick count surveys showed that Jokowi is the likely winner of the 2019 presidential race. However, Jokowi asked his supporters to wait for KPU's official announcement.
"Pak Jokowi and his campaign team don't want to excessively celebrate the results of quick count surveys. We just want to thank all stakeholders," former West Nusa Tenggara Governor Tuan Guru Bajang told journalists on Wednesday.
"Almost all quick count surveys showed Jokowi would win the race. They predicted Jokowi would get 53-55 percent of the votes," he added.Artikel Asli
