TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), Arifin, on Tuesday said that he had personally been instructed by Governor Anies Baswedan to impose greater public health protocol monitoring after the transitional PSBB saw COVID-19 cases soaring.
“We, the Satpol PP, were asked to better monitor people in public areas due to the significant growth of confirmed cases,” said Arifin on Tuesday, July 14.
As of Sunday, July 12, confirmed cases during the transitional period post-social restriction had reached a record high with 404 cases. The total tally in Jakarta had already reached 14,361 cases.
According to Arifin, Satpol PP will better supervise public areas such as traditional and modern markets, public parks, and congested streets across the capital city that are often used for people as gathering spots.
“The viral spread can only be suppressed through the better discipline of the health measures,” said Arifin. “If we’re not disciplined, we’ll face this pandemic even longer.”
